Unit 3: Reliable Websites
Unit Overview:
In this unit, we learned about conducting online research. At the beginning of the unit, we looked at several different websites and discussed what made them reliable, and what made others unreliable. We even looked at a few websites online that we originally thought were reliable, and found out they were in fact fake, and just made to trick us. This made us realize that everything that is online isn’t always true. We then learned some tips and tricks to conducting online research effectively and efficiently. After we understood how to do online research, and how to determine reliable sources we began to conduct our own research on a topic of our choice. I chose The Most Dangerous Fish In The Ocean, because I am very interested in that topic and wanted to learn more. I found many reliable sources to do my research. As I read online, I kept track of the new facts I learned on a Google Document. I made sure to put what I read in my own words. When all my research was done, I reread all my information with a teacher to make sure there were no mistakes, and then started to create my website. While creating my website I had to keep the Principles of Design in mind, to make sure it was easy to read and looked professional. At the end I created my reference page, to show where I got all my information, and published my new website.
Enduring Understanding: When doing research online how can you determine if a website is reliable?
I can determine that a website is reliable by looking at other sites and check the information. We can also check the date or the author.
Reflection on Progress Towards the Standards:
Strengths:
I used many tools in my Wix page. Also, I was using the Google Docs Research tool to get my websites. And also, I was able to preview it.
Areas for Improvement:
I would like to use more websites information for my Wix page. Also it was hard for me to put the text in my own words I would like to improve on it.
